In reference to your article in the February/march issue of Guns & Ammo “The 1911 of Mythic Proportions” I would like to bring your attention to the Coonan .357 semiautomatic pistol. The Coonan .357 is all stainless steel with adjustable sights, fires a 158 grain bullet at 1,472 fps and shoots 1 inch groups at 25 yards not to mention that .357 caliber ammo is a lot more readily available than 10mm. I brought this gun to your attention over a year ago when I first got mine, but so far it hasn’t gotten any coverage in your magazine. Your readers are missing out not seeing a review of this truly awesome firearm that is very reasonably priced at $1249.00, you should consider it for a future issue. I have been shooting this pistol for over a year and have not had a single malfunction of any kind, in my opinion the Coonan is the ultimate combat pistol.
Sincerely, Chris S., Texas
When I first saw the Coonan .357 Pistol featured in the Feb.1986 Guns & Ammo, I knew that someday I would own one.Our tenth wedding anniversary was in July 1992 and I gave my wife a beautiful diamond anniversary ring. She gave me a Coonan . I think that I got the better of the deal but my wife would beg to differ on that subject.Nineteen years later I still have the Coonan and my loving wife, and would not part with either for all the money in the world!I even have the 1986 Guns & Ammo magazine that sparked my desire for the Coonan Pistol tucked safely away in my gun locker. I am glad that the Coonan is back in production. The Coonan is an excellent gun, fun to shoot, and turns a lot of heads when I take it to the shooting range. It’s pretty awesome when I step to the line and fire it because it really draws some attention. My hometown is Mankato,Mn. I wish I could have met Dan Coonan when he was designing this gun while he was going to college there. He had a winning design back then as it is now! Here’s to many more years of success for Dan and the team at Coonan Inc.

Actually my comment is on the Conan FAL receiver. I had purchased a FN FAL parts kit and was looking for a receiver to complete my rifle. I did a lot of research and I started see a pattern of horror stories involving other manufactures receivers. I had put together a couple Aka from parts kits. So I had a little experience but from what I was finding it seemed like I would need a gunsmithing course to be able to put my FAL together. When I ran across Conan I knew I found the answer. After I picked up my receiver from my ffl I couldn’t wait to start on my rifle. I was very impressed with the finish. My fol was also very impressed. He said he had never seen a high quality receiver like it. There were no manufacturing marks anywhere on it. And the tolerances were very tight. The only complaint I have is my FAL went together too easy. I was done in an afternoon with a few borrowed specialized tools. With my Aks taking a couple weeks to build. I couldn’t believe it was so easy with the Conan receiver. I was out shooting my FAL the next day..And with a couple minor sight adjustments I was hitting dead center. I put 200 rounds through my rifle that day with no jams, misfires, or any other problems. Anyone that asks and quite a few who didn’t I tell them don’t even consider buying any other receiver. Thanks Coonan for a quality product.
Out of the box, 50 rounds without a jam or failure to feed, I’ve never had that experience with a 1911 based handgun! At the range I handed it over to my wife and she proceeded to put the first three rounds touching on the paper at 7 yards, I spent the rest of the day at the range prying it out of her hands! A great gun!
Received the gun today, 9-8-11. Thank you for a quality, US made hand gun. I put 120 rounds through it as soon as I got home. Not one missfeed and right on the target. This is a sweet gun. It was worth the wait. Thank you Dan.

Guys just wanted to drop you a line and let your know how impressed I am with the pistol. Finally had a chance to put some rounds through the pistol and had so much fun I ran out of ammo. This gun is very accurate and the trigger pull is perfect for my taste, crisp and clean. The Coonan 357 is the only brand new pistol I have ever purchased that shoots and feels like it was worth every penny paid right out of the box. All the others needed something to make them just right. Absolutely nothing was needed on the Coonan, the gun is fantastic. I will be waiting to see what is on the drawing board next.

I own one– I ordered and received Serial Number 57. I have fired about 300 rounds through it, so far. Not a single jam, not a single malfunction. I love it! It is gorgeous, functions flawlessly, and is incredibly macho! When you shoot it, heads turn. I have fourteen Model 1911s in .45 ACP. They are great, yes, and one is a Les Baer Thunder Ranch; but if you want punch and you want macho– get yourself one of these. I love my Coonan .357!

I called earlier today asking for help on how to field strip my Coonan Model B with integral compensator. I spoke with Dan, and he spent 5-10 minutes patiently going through how to make a tool from a paper clip and how to use it to remove the recoil rod and spring from the barrel. Dan, I figured it out in about 10 minutes with your excellent instructions over the phone. That kind of support is almost unheard of these days in our throwaway society. I sincerely appreciate not only that I was able to get my problem resolved, but that you, the creator of this marvelous handgun, took time to speak to me personally.
I’m a customer for life.

To whomever reads this from Coonan. This is from Gordon ——. I was the fire arms instructor and field training officer for lyou county sheriff office Marshall Minnesota from 1984 through 1990. During that time i purchased 8 of your 357 coonan units with 5 mags for each 3 of which were comped. We were the talk of law enforcement through out the state! When we went to a shoot compition and came to the line no one wanted to be to the right of us or behind us. But when the shoot was done everyone wanted to shoot one. I am so glad to find that you are again building them. The serial number i still have is number 357. I am now retired and live in Florida and work as a range master at International shooting compitions all around the world. I take my Coonan to just about every country I go to. To say people are interested would be a understatement.

Dear Folks at Coonan, Many years ago I owned a Coonan Model B. It was a bit finicky about feeding and extracting, so after a few months I sold it. I was surprised to find out about your most recent Classic model in late 2011 and decided to “gamble” and ordered a new Coonan Classic. This pistol works exactly like it should and I am very happy I made the investment! The pistol exhibits no problems and is an absolute joy to shoot. It has become my favorite gun! For your information, I am getting great performance using the Fiocchi .357 142 grain FMJ ammo. I am now tempted to purchase a 2nd Coonan Classic to keep it NIB in my collection! Keep up the good work and I wish you many future sales. Use this testimonial as you see fit.Thanks.
